Drew and Jonathan — the Scott Brothers — are well known for their popular hit television series, Property Brothers. Always on the move and constantly creating something new, the Scott Brothers are always getting ready for their next great enterprise. We caught up with the brothers to find out the latest about how fame is treating them and what they are up to next.
Property Brothers has aired in over 150 countries and has been dubbed in several different languages. Are you guys recognized when you travel abroad or are you still able to fly beneath the radar? Is it really weird to watch yourself dubbed in a different language?
We travel quite frequently and it’s always fun when fans recognize us abroad … and tell us how much they love our shows. We’ve been approached by so many people all over the world — in Italy, France, Asia, South American and more. Who doesn’t love being dubbed in so many different languages! The only problem … a lot of times people think we speak the local language and are mildly disappointed when we only respond in English. Haha. As far as being recognized everywhere we go, we stand tall at over 6’4, so we rarely fly under the radar.
This year Property Brothers is being filmed in cowboy country — Nashville, Tennessee and Calgary, Alberta. What most appealed to you about these cities?
We were raised as ranch kids and ab- solutely love the culture. Both Nashville and Calgary have some of the friendliest people and the most beautiful countryside. Other than the extreme humidity (bad for Jonathan’s hair), this last Nashville season we just wrapped turned out amazing. The food was fabulous, the homes were all unique and we found out Music City has some of the BEST escape rooms.
You know you’ve made it when TV series like The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live poke fun at your show. Do you still get excited when you hear your show mentioned in popular culture? > Admittedly, we totally fan-gurl when we find out a popular TV show or host has mentioned us in their program. We really get a kick out of it and so do our fans. It’s certainly flattering.
In November 2017, Habitat for Humanity awarded you both its highest honour, Habitat Humanitarians, in recognition of your dedication to Habitat for Humanity’s vision. What does working with this organization mean to you?
Working with Habitat for the last 20+ years has been a truly extraordinary experience. Drew and I were excited when they approached us about being named Habitat Humanitarians. It is such an honour to join the ranks of Jimmy/ Rosalynn Carter and Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood. Habitat does a lot of good for people all over the world and we are so honoured to be a part of what they do!
What can fans look forward to from the Scott Brothers next?
There’s a lot ahead for Drew and me. We’ve got Sailing with the Scott’s, our fan cruise to the Caribbean in December. Our children’s book BUILDER BROTHERS: BIG PLANS is out in October, we continue to launch new and exciting lines through Scott Living and we’ve got new episodes of Property Brothers beginning September 3 on HGTV Canada.
