Graduates from UPEI’s School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences have many fulfilling and high-earning career options
Guided by an advisory council made up of national and international business and industry leaders, the School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS) at the University of Prince Edward Island features world-class programs, highly rated and award-winning professors, a friendly and supportive environment, and state-of-the- art ‘smart’ facilities. UPEI is located in the vibrant capital city of Charlottetown — and minutes away from ocean vistas and sandy beaches.
SMCS was created based on the growing need for university graduates to be educated in developing sophisticated mathematical and computational techniques aligned with market needs, managing and extracting knowledge from unprecedented volumes of data, and integrating methods with powerful analytical software and technology tools.
The School offers programs in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Financial Mathematics, Data Analytics, Business Analytics, Video Game Programming, and Mathematics with Engineering. All programs have a co-operative education option and are built on a common first-year, where students take foundational courses and have an opportunity to learn their strengths and interests and obtain program advice.
TD Bank Group recently gave $350,000 to the School. “We are thrilled to support the UPEI School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences with its mission that ensures future generations have the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to contribute solutions to complex and rapidly-changing industry sectors, including our own,” said Scott Belton, Senior Vice- President, Atlantic Region for TD Canada Trust.
