Finca La Emperatriz Reserva 2007 (Rioja, Spain)
This full-bodied Tempranillo is an opaque purple in colour with a spicy nose of blueberries and tar and a floral grace note. Full on the palate and really well balanced, it offers silky tannins behind an elegant, long, exotic fruit and spice- packed finish. *****(91). Food match: BBQ pork; Manchego cheese.

Segura Viudas Brut Reserva (Spain)
This is my go-to Cava when I’m looking for an inexpensive bubbly. Straw coloured with an apple purée and hazel nut nose overlaid with minerally-yeasty notes. Medium-bodied with a dry, creamy, nutty flavour. A versatile fizz. ****(88).
Food match: sea food; goat’s cheese. $14.25 • LCBO # 216960
Lustau Solera Reserva Escuadrilla Rare Amontillado Sherry (Jerez, Spain)
This is a sherry-lover’s sherry, no doubt about it. Light amber in colour, the nose is a complex bouquet of lemon crème brûlée, smoky, salty grilled nuts. Opulent, warm and crisp on the palate with a very long and persistent finish. *****(92).
Food match: tapas; brazil nuts. $17.25 • half bottle, Vintages #660324
Château Le Vieux Serestin 2009 (Bordeaux)

Quinta das Marias Encruzado 2011 (Portugal)
A delicious Easter dinner wine. Encruzado is a grape grown in the Dão region. It reminds me of Viognier. Pale lemon in colour it offers a Meyer lemon nose with a floral note; Full-bodied, soft on the palate, beautifully balanced between sweet fruit and acidity with a dry honeyed peach note and a suggestion of struck-flint on the finish. ****½(89). Food match:
roast chicken; pork chop.

Cave Spring Riesling Estate 2012 (Ontario)
Winemaker Angelo Pavan makes a mean Riesling in the best sense of the word. His 2012 Estate Riesling is light straw in colour with a minerally nose of freshly squeezed lime and honey. Crisp and dry on the palate, its bracing acidity carries the lime and grapefruit flavours to a satisfying finish. *****(90). Food match: seafood; grilled fish. $17.95 • Vintages #286377
