It’s no secret that the Toronto Blue Jays have lost their “superman”, Kevin Pillar, in a trade yesterday to the San Francisco Giants. Fans were shocked and upset to hear about the trade, but the hardest part was seeing Pillar’s own reaction to this situation.
Kevin Pillar was interviewed last week about his departure and was visibly fighting back tears while speaking to reporters about leaving the team. It’s evident that this trade has been emotional for him as he explains, “It’s all I’ve ever known. You spend a lot of time here, you spend more time here than you do at home in the offseason. I spend more time with people here than I do with my own family”.
It seems that the team is trying to process the news as well, and teammates are expressing their disappointment in his departure as well. Smoak expressed his thoughts during his own interview saying, “He was great, man. Good teammate. Superman. Whatever you want,” “He’s a guy you want on your team. Sorry I’m getting emotional.” Pillar’s Locker-mate and starting pitcher, Marcus Stroman also sent out his heart-felt goodbye to his former teammate.
